PPG Industries, Pittsburgh, PA, has appointed
Michael T. Hartings general manager of its
Protective and Marine Coatings (PMC) business for the United States and Canada. Hartings began his career with PPG in 1992. He
has served in various managerial roles in the
United States and Asia. He was most recently
general manager, PPG, Coatings Malaysia.
Former FSCT president Yasmin Sayed-Sweet
has been promoted to the position of VP Sales
& Marketing for Alberdingk Boley, Inc. USA.
Sayed-Sweet joined Alberdingk Boley as strategic business director in September 2005. In her
new role, she will be responsible for leading
the U.S. sales team. She has more than 15 years
of experience in the paint and coatings industry. Sayed-Sweet served as president of FSCT in
2008–09.
Andrea Valenti has been named global oilfield chemicals and coatings business manager
for Eliokem. Valenti began his career with the
company in 1986 as a sales representative for
Southern Europe and the Middle East. He was
appointed global marketing manager for oilfield chemicals in 2004. He will retain that role
along with his new assignment.
Rad Tech, Bethesda, MD, has presented its
annual President’s Award to David Harbourne,
president of Fusion UV. The award is given to
an individual who makes outstanding contributions to the UV/EB industry and the Rad Tech
organization. Harbourne has twice served as
president of Rad Tech and has chaired various
committees and task groups. He currently
serves as Rad Tech’s International Liaison, fostering connections with UV/EB technology
groups and organizations in various countries.
NACE International, Houston, TX, has announced changes to its board of directors for
2009–2010. The board of directors consists of
12 directors and four officers. This year, there
are three new officers and three new directors.
The 2009–2010 president of NACE International is Mark J. Byerley, Sr., also president of Tinker & Rasor. Vice-president for 2009–2010 is
Chris M. Fowler, global director of corrosion
for Bodycote Testing Group. Beginning a two-year term as treasurer is Paige A. Herbert. The
three new directors are Graham Bell (Western
Area), A.I. “Sandy” Williamson (Northern
Area), and Michael Baach (Member Activities).
Charles Smart has been named director of
engineering in the Curing Equipment Department of DYMAX Corporation, Torrington, CT.
He will report to Terry Woldorf, senior vice
president of global sales and marketing and
lead the engineering team.
Hans de Vriese has been appointed
AkzoNobel's new corporate director control.
He assumed the position on September 1,
2009. He succeeds Martin Potter, who resigned
the position to focus on other career opportunities. de Vriese is the chief financial officer of
General Motors Asia Pacific for the General
Motors Corporation.
The Harris Group of Companies, which includes Harris Paints, has named Ian Kenyon
Chief Executive Officer of the company.
Kenyon was most recently president and general manager for the Canadian and Export Division of Latham Splash International. He also
spent many years at ICI Paints. Harris Paints, a
licensee for AkzoNobel, is based in Barbados
and serves the Caribbean market.
The Sherwin-Williams Company, Cleveland,
OH, has announced that John M. Stropki has
been elected to the company’s Board of Directors. Stropki is the chairman, president, and
CEO of Lincoln Electric Holdings, Inc.
Mark Ruch has been appointed strategic account manager by Lubrizol Advanced Materials,
Inc., Cleveland, OH, for the company’s paints,
coatings, and adhesives business in the Performance Coatings line. His territory will include
the Northeastern U.S. Ruch most recently
worked for the Rochester Midland Corporation.
Brenntag Specialties, Inc., Reading, PA, has
announced the appointment of Michael J. Ellis
as senior account manager for the Southeast
Region. He will be responsible for customer accounts in Florida, southern Georgia, and southern Alabama. Ellis has previously worked for
Arizona Chemical and Rohm and Haas.
Obituary
Nick F. Dispensa, a retired member of
FSCT and Kansas City Society for Coatings Technology, has passed away. He
was a past-president of the Kansas City
Society. Dispensa was employed by
American Ingredients, Patco Additives
Division.
