Updated U.S. Paint & Coatings Industry Market Analysis to Be Published;
Base Study and Interactive Planning Toolkit Options Offered
NPCA/FSCT has announced that it
will offer the eighth edition of the U.S.
Paints & Coatings Industry Market Analysis: 2008–2013 in early 2010. The organization has published this highly valued
study biannually since 1974, providing
a critical source for accurate marketing,
economic, and technical information.
Since the publication of the last
report two years ago, the U.S. paint and
coatings landscape has changed dramat-
ically and will continue to change as the
industry adjusts to new rules of engage-
ment. To better enable its members and
the industry to respond to these
unprecedented
business shifts,
NPCA/FSCT,
through its part-
ner, The
CHEMARK Con-
sulting Group,
Inc., has
announced that
it will now offer
two options to
purchasers of its
HIRE Act to Boost Sales
Continued from Page 5
The HIRE Act is supported by the
Home Furnishings and Building Products Coalition, which was organized in
late 2008 and brings together 14 associations representing home improvement
and furnishing industries, including the
NPCA/FSCT, the American Home Furnishings Alliance (AHFA), the National
Home Furnishings Association (NHFA),
and the International Sleep Products
Association (ISPA).
NPCA/FSCT and other members of
the coalition are now mobilizing their
members to help secure additional co-sponsors for the HIRE Act. NPCA/FSCT
members are urged to get involved
through CoatingsConnect at www.
coatingsconnect.org to help shape the
outcome of this issue.
An in-depth analysis of this legislation and its potential impact on the
coatings industry will be published in
the October issue of JCT Coatings Tech.

Strategic Planning Toolkit’
NPCA/FSCT and CHEMARK have
developed an interactive Strategic Planning Toolkit that includes the publication and an Internet-based Planning

study. This supplementary software program serves as a custom “what if”
model that responds to the serious economic volatility that is being experienced today. Users can build on the
wealth of statistical analysis and forecasting data provided by the Market
Analysis to better plan their business
activities. The interactive tool allows
users to drill down to views of historic

regional level as well as national. In
addition, it allows users to change the
value of inputs to the forecast and see
what impact the changes may have on
their business models. Some examples
of the planning capabilities:
• Determine sales territory planning, advertising analysis, and
resource allocation or inventory
and production planning through
state-level forecasts
• Evaluate expansion and growth
opportunities through state and
regional forecasts
• Maintain an up-to-date forecast
of industry demand as the newest
leading indicator data becomes
available from different economic
data publications
